Blair Atholl Estate – Milton of Tulliemet Farm
Atholl Estates has 145,000 acres of hills, woodlands, and open countryside in Highland Perthshire, Scotland. The region is recognized as an area with high landscape value and rich biodiversity with the northern part of the estate within the Cairngorms National Park.
The 6000 acre Milton of Tulliemet Farm is one of two home farms on Atholl. Caroline and the Wilderculture team are working with the estate to transition the land of Milton of Tulliemet from traditional hill livestock farming to regenerative agriculture.
The farm has an impressive array of habitats and includes woodland, improved and unimproved grassland with a large area of hill ground of dry heath including some remnant stands of pine.
Plans for the farm are in early development but we are currently seeking a manager or partner to help us move the project forward. We have started to gather data on habitats, infrastructure, and sward quality to help to inform the grazing plan development.
While we gather information and seek the right manager the herd of continental cattle have been sold and the stock levels have been temporarily reduced to support the transition and leverage the regenerative power of rest – already changes are occurring with new species appearing under the reduced grazing pressure.
We will keep you updated on the exciting changes on the farm and in the meantime, if you want to treat yourself to a little luxury and visit the farm there is a range of accommodation available.
If you want to see the changes at Milton of Tulliemet Farm in person why not stay in one of these stunning shepherds’ huts overlooking the upper half of the farm.
